Home insulation is the general term given to the methods that a home owner can use to insulate his or her home against the elements. The aim here is to keep cold out and heat in when you look at it in basic terms. You can set up home insulation on your own or you can use specialist contractors to do it for you. The choice you make here will generally depend on the type of insulation that you will be implementing.
People use various forms of home insulation. Common types here include:
- Cavity wall insulation - here you have insulation products injected into the cavities between your walls and floors.
- Double glazing - double glazing is basically the use of two panes of glass in a window rather than one to insulate windows.
- Draught proofing - draught proofing is a form of insulation that stops draughts coming in through doors and windows, for example. You can also buy specialist draught proofing systems such as products that can block up chimneys and so on.
- Loft insulation - this kind of insulation usually takes the form of specially designed rolls of insulating material which are laid in your loft or attic to give protection.
Having even basic insulation in and around you home can ensure that it stays cooler in summer and warmer in winter. You will also usually see specific cost benefits, especially in the winter months, as the heat that you use to keep your home warm is less likely to escape and to waste the money that you are spending on it in the first place.
